Apollyon by Jennifer Armentrout Review

Apollyon by Jennifer Armentrout
★★★★★

Fate isn’t something to mess with… and now, neither is Alex.

Alex has always feared two things: losing herself in the Awakening and being placed on the Elixir. But love has always been stronger than Fate, and Aiden St. Delphi is willing to make war on the gods—and Alex herself—to bring her back.

The gods have killed thousands and could destroy entire cities in their quest to stop Seth from taking Alex’s power and becoming the all-powerful God Killer. But breaking Alex’s connection to Seth isn’t the only problem. There are a few pesky little loopholes in the whole “an Apollyon can’t be killed” theory, and the only person who might know how to stop the destruction has been dead for centuries.

Finding their way past the barriers that guard the Underworld, searching for one soul among countless millions, and then somehow returning will be hard enough. Alex might be able to keep Seth from becoming the God Killer… or she might become the God Killer herself.

Alex has discovered how special she really is; not only is she a half-blood, but she is also an Apollyon. Alex had to rise to new challenges and had to face many of her fears. Even when she didn’t believe in herself, she had people around her that did -- especially Aiden. Her world is crumbling down around her. Will she make it out alive?

Jennifer Armentrout has done it again -- her books are like a bad drug addiction. Just like every book of hers that I have finished -- in this series and the Lux series -- I have been left craving more. Without another one to read, I go instantly into withdrawals. I have no idea how I’m going to wait for the conclusion to this amazing series. She seriously makes me feel like a crazed junkie. Thankfully, she writes fast and publishes books fairly faster than other authors.

The characters are pushed even farther in this book. There are a lot of holy crap moments and some great action scenes. This book was intense, to say the least; and I don’t want to give too much away, especially to people who haven’t read this series yet. I’m terrified for the next book to see how this all ends up, and I know I will be sad to say goodbye to this world and these amazing characters that have found a permanent place in my heart.

This is one of my favorite series, and I highly recommend it! You won’t be able to put these books down until you finish them. I have to go back to read the other ones to review them because I couldn’t stop reading them to review them, and I don’t want to accidentally mix up what happened in each specific book. It is a great series for readers of any age.

received this book from the publisher, Spencer Hill Press, for review. Thank you Spencer Hill Press!

Teaser Tuesday (11)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you are getting all kinds of awesome presents, especially BOOKS! I have been reading Opal by Jennifer Armentrout, which I absolutely love and wanted to share a teaser with you all today for Teaser Tuesday.

Opal by Jennifer Armentrout

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it. (Goodreads)

*TEASER* "He's picked up one of the historical romance novels with the bodice-ripping, barrel-chested covers. Mom arched a brow. Her expression basically read WTF, and I almost lost it."

-Opal by Jennifer Armentrout

The "he" would be Daemon and he epically fails at picking a book to pretend to be reading. When I read this in its full context I couldn't stop laughing! Awesome job Jennifer Armentrout. I hope you all enjoy the teaser. Merry Christmas!

Teaser Tuesday (10)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along!

Half-Blood by Jennifer Armentrout

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck. (Goodreads)

*TEASER* "I'm ready to move onto something else, like practicing with knives or defense against the dark arts. Cool things."

"Did you just quote Harry Potter?"

I grinned. "maybe I did."

-Half-Blood

I know that was a little over two sentences but I didn't want to cut it and it doesn't give too much away. It is just a fun quote. I just read Half-Blood in pretty much a day and I absolutely loved it. Check out this book if you haven't. I hope you enjoyed the teaser!

Opal by Jennifer Armentrout COVER REVEAL

Today I am super excited to be a part of the Opal by Jennifer Armentrout cover reveal. Not only is the cover revealed today but the book blurb is also being revealed. This is enough to send Lux series lovers running around jumping up and down and screaming. I may have done one or all of those things and more. I cannot begin to explain how excited I am about this book. I absolutely loved Obsidian, Shadows and Onyx and have been dying to get my hands on the next book. If you haven't read these books yet STOP whatever you are doing and go read Obsidian NOW. No seriously, go read it now. Well maybe after you finish reading this post. Book bloggers can appreciate that Katy is a blogger, I know that made me excited. There is also this gorgeous drool worthy guy named Daemon, I may be in love, just saying. I can go on and on about how awesome this series is but I will stop since you probably just want to get to the part where you get to see the cover. I would love to hear your thoughts on this gorgeous cover, leave some love at the end of this post.

Without further ado, the Opal  cover Reveal!

TGIF (21)

TGIF at GReads- This Feature is for Fridays to re-cap the week's post & to answer a question from GReads.

Question: Best I've Read So Far: We're half way through the year (crazy how time flies!), which top 3 books are the best you've read so far this year?

I have read quite a few awesome books so far this year. I'll start with my new obsession, Obsidian by Jennifer Armentrout. I absolutely loved this book and can't believe I waited so long to read it.

Next will be Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver, I don't know how she does it but even when I was upset at what was happening I couldn't put the darn book down.

For the last choice I will go with Red Heart Tattoo by Lurlene McDaniel. She is my favorite author and did not disappoint me one bit with this new book, which comes out next month. I think this was my favorite out of her more recent books.

Waiting on Wednesday (26)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Deity (Covenant #3) by Jennifer Armentrout
Expected Release Date: November 6, 2012

History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time.

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday—to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she’s a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"—which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time—she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she’s caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate... (Goodreads)

I haven't read any of the books in this series yet, but I did just buy the first one on my Kindle Fire after I read Obsidian, Shadows and Onyx and completely loved them. If any of you have seen my facebook or twitter comments on the subject then you probably know I have been a bit obsessed since I read them. I look forward to beginning this series and once I do I'm sure I will be highly anticipating this book. I'm already anticipating it since I already enjoy the authors writing.

What are you waiting for?
